Meetings
The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us new ways of living. The Law Office of Nancy Hui is of no exception. To maintain social distancing, we moved all our client meetings online. Over time, we found that virtual meetings bring much convenience and flexibility to our clients. We have decided that we would embrace this new way of operation. Going forward, our client meetings are held virtually through video conferences or phone calls. For clients who prefer the traditional face-to-face interactions, meetings can be held at our office on an as needed basis.
Fees
Our fees include a combination of fixed fees and hourly rates. Estate planning document drafting is often charged at a flat fee, while probate and guardianship matters are charged at an hourly rate.
- Estate planning: Estate plan can be either will-based or trust-based. For a single person, a will-based plan starts at $1000 while a trust-based plan starts at $3,500. Regardless of the types of the plan, a complete set of estate planning document includes medical power of attorney, HIPAA authorization, directives to physicians and family or surrogates, financial power of attorney, declaration of guardian, and funeral instructions. All of these documents are included in the fee quoted above. As we emphasize to our clients, the value of our service is not in the papers that we generate. Rather, the value lies in the well-thought-out legal advice and individually tailored planning that we offer to our clients. Whether your goal is probate avoidance, asset protection, succession planning of foreign assets or minimization of taxes, we would have a plan that meet your needs to the fullest extent.
- Probate and guardianship: Due to the wide range of complexity in these types of cases, it is impossible to quote a set fee. All probate and guardianship matters are charged at our current hourly rate, which starts at $350/h and may go up based on the complexity of the case. A retainer is required before we start any work.
About
Nancy received her law degree from the University of Houston in 2003. Her interests in wills, probate and estate planning stemmed from her volunteering experience with the legal aid and other pro bono work. Nancy takes pride in helping her clients maneuvering the legal system after the death of their loved ones or in making plans to protect their future.
To better serve her estate planning clients, Nancy completed the Certificate in Estate Planning Program at the Boston University School of Law. She is also a graduate of the Master of Law (L.L.M.) in Taxation with a focus in Estate Planning. Nancy is a Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law, demonstrating her superb expertise in this area. The board certification is one of the most respected achievements a Texas attorney can attain. In fact, less than 1% of attorneys in Texas are board certified in this specialty area.
Nancy is well versed in the current tax laws and their impact in estate planning. She has a special interest in international estate planning, assisting clients with assets outside of the U.S., as well as foreigners planning to immigrate to the United States or owning assets in the U.S. Her expertise in international estate planning is reflected by her full membership as a Trust & Estate Professional (TEP) of the Society of Trust Professional (STEP).
Not only that Nancy is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas, she is also a certified ad litem attorney in guardianship proceedings. She has assisted many families in need of temporary or permanent guardianships for those who need assistance to manage their affairs and finance. Nancy is a long time animal lover. She speaks Cantonese fluently.
